George Benoy

George Benoy

George has had a wild ride on a musical career that began in the small town of Lowell, N.C. and took him to Europe and other foreign countries before settling in Dallas, N.C. Trumpet was his chosen instrument but he switched to flute and alto sax while in service. He has the unusual credentials of having attended the Navy School of Music on two occasions. When he enlisted at age 18 George was sent to the school of music where he played in the jazz and concert bands. After discharge four years later, he enrolled at Appalachian State University and earned a degree in music. He liked the navy so well he re-enlisted and was sent back to the music school for a referesher course. During his last hitch he played trumpet in several organizations, including the NATO band in Europe and the Charleston, S.C. Symphony, while stationed there. Since discharge George played with the Knights of Music and has made teaching music a career. He is on the staff of a church school and does private teaching. He alternates between alto sax and trumpet with The StarDusters and leads the rehearsals.
