Bill Todd

Bill Todd

Bill got some of his musical talents naturally, inheriting them from his grandfather, Kenneth Todd, who was Master of many bands, including the Oasis Temple Shrine Band in Charlotte, NC. To say he cut his teeth on his grandpa's trombone mouthpiece is no exaggeration. He seriously considered becoming a professional musician but his father said otherwise.

So he went to N.C. State, studied engineering and dabbled in music. Bill played in the university band, in the Raleigh Symphony, in Jesse Barbour's Lamplighters and Leon Jordan's Continentals then formed his own group, The Skyliners. After college he joined the Navy and helped organize the Swingin' Wingmen in Pensacola, Fla. After leaving the service he played in brass ensembles and was a member of Celebration Brass quintet. After a career as a commercial pilot with Eastern Air Lines and Saudi Arabian Air Lines he retired in Gastonia, N.C. and became a member of the Gaston Symphonic Band as a trombonist. He and his brother, Ken, organized The StarDusters in 1999.
