Ben Reavis
A native of Salisbury, NC, Ben Reavis fell in love with the saxophone at a very
early age listening to recordings of Glen Miller and Duke Ellington. Close
harmony of five saxes was something he dearly loved.
At age 14 he performed in his first swing band. “We had two songs, Java
and Little Brown Jug, so we could perform as long as the audience wanted
to hear these two songs.
After graduation from Gardner-Webb University
and helping to establish an IT based business, Ben was able to re-kindle his
performance time by playing with the Oasis Shrine Band in Charlotte. For over 15
years he traveled around the Carolinas playing from concert halls to parade
routes. He led the Shrine Band, as
Captain, from 1999-2000. Ben is also a long standing member of the Oasis
“Nostalgia” big band and has also performed with the Gaston Symphonic Band.
Ben
and his wife Lin resided in Gastonia for over 25 years. After retiring from his
business in Charlotte in 2007 they settled in the Lake Wylie area. They have
one Granddaughter who is a saxophonist in a High School Band. They enjoy
jamming together on duets.
